Memorial Rally at Wightman Cemetery

A Memorial Day rally will be held at the Wightman Cemetery on Saturday May 24 at 10:00 AM. The Cemetery is located at the corner of West Center Street and Vernondale Drive. Buried within the cemetery are six Revolutionary War soldiers as well as three men who served in the war of 1812 and four in the Civil War.
The Cemetery had been abandoned for many years and recently control was given to the newly formed Wightman Association. The association’s intent is to restore the cemetery and care for its upkeep. Well-known pioneers of American freedom are buried here and soon a marker will be erected in their honor. Anyone interested in its history is encouraged to attend the Memorial service.
